Keep Old School Alive
This morning, I came across a post in my Facebook feed that lit me up, motivating me to keep old school alive.
It was a story about an old man at a grocery checkout trying to buy some groceries without a smart phone.
(I realize the story was probably AI-generated –which of course, annoys me. But I believe the message was worthwhile.)
The purchase total rang up higher than the man expected. He pulled out a store circular, which advertised the sales prices of said items. And the clerk pointed out the need to scan the coupon with his phone.
But when the man pulled out his flip phone, it was clear that he didn’t have the Internet on it.
The cashier said there was nothing she could do, because the store’s system wouldn’t allow for an override.
While the man in the line behind him came to his rescue, the story pointed out the very thing that continues to motivate me to do what I do:
This world is moving fast towards an enslaving & controlling outcome.
So many people are just going with the flow.
While we who don’t like the direction society is headed can choose to not comply, it’s not a long-term solution.
Our Choices are Diminishing
Right now, most people can still opt for the line with the checkout clerk, instead of the self-serve kiosks. And folks standing in line with us can still come to our rescue in helping redeem digital coupons.
But if we don’t do something to provide an alternative to the digital madness, there’s not going to be much choice for any of us in the future. — Not if we want to go on living as we personally deem fit.
This is why I want to keep old school alive.
And I want to go beyond simply making old school choices that affect me.
I want to enable others to have some of those same choices in the future.
Don’t Just Say No! Also, Say Yes!
We all have the choice right now to ditch the modern devices and hold fast to a more natural way of life.
But most people are unwilling to get rid of their phones. And I get that.
However, I’ve been operating just fine without a cell phone.
I’m dedicated to trying to live more naturally — in all aspects of life.
And I have the heart & determination to help people at-large.
I believe I have some good ideas for bridging the technological gap.
Not just for me and my household, but for those living around us — and for whomever comes into contact with us.
And I’m doggedly working towards bringing those ideas to bear.
I intend on posting about this particular pursuit along the way in my personal diary. (If you’d like me to email you whenever I do, you can subscribe to my Substack, and I’ll keep you posted.)
